«Computational Science and Computational Intelligence»

 

Computational science and Computational intelligence both aim at finding methodologies and approaches to address difficult problems. While Computational Science is concerned with using computers to solve complex scientific and real-world problems, Computational intelligence is the study of computational methods in ways that exhibit intelligence. The goal of this Special Session is to provide a high-level international forum where people active in these two areas can exchange ideas and get together in a much focused single-track meeting, in an atmosphere fostering discussion and the development of ideas for future collaboration. The session will host both invited and contributed papers covering, but not limited to, the following aspects:

• Big data and data analytics
• Soft computing
• Machine learning and data mining
• Image processing and computer vision
• High performance computing
• Natural language processing
• Information security
• Computational biology and bioinformatics
• Modeling and simulation
• Information retrieval

«Network Coding and Applications»


To meet increasing throughput, delay and reliability demands, future wireless networks will have to rely on increased cooperation both among nodes and among protocol layers in a node. This requires a wide variety of knowledge, from theoretical issues such as graph theory or information theory, to issues at the physical and network layers. A potential solution is the recently proposed Network Coding because it offers a number of desired properties such as resource efficiency, robustness and security. Instead of performing only “store-and-forward” operations as in traditional routing, intermediate nodes in network also perform additional computations (coding) on the incoming data and then forward the coded information. In this sense, network coding can be considered a form of cooperation at the network layer. While significant efforts are being focused on network coding, the topic is still at its emerging phase. The goal of this special session is to bring together international researchers to exchange their original work on network coding, ranging from theoretical aspects to implementation and applications. The session will host both invited and contributed papers covering, but not limited to, the following aspects:

• Network coding theory

• Network code constructions and algorithms

• Resource optimization for network coding

• Network error correction

• Joint source/channel/network coding

• Physical-layer network coding

• Network coding development tools

• Robustness, energy, or delay aspects of network coding

• Applications of network coding

«RGB-D: Open Issues and Applications»


In the past year, novel camera systems like the Microsoft Kinect or the Asus Xtion sensor that provide both color and dense depth images became readily available. The coming of these devices gives us a possibility to resolve some difficult problems encountered when working with conventional cameras. Moreover, these devices allow to open a high number of new applications in different domains. The main aim of this session is to bring together experts from academia and industry to discuss the use of these devices: open issues and applications. The session will cover the following topics:


• Data acquisition, color and depth calibration, denoising

• RGB-D hand gesture recognition

• Human-machine interaction with RGB-D sensors

• Face recognition with RGB-D sensors

• Fall detection with RGB-D sensors
• Human activity recognition in RGB-D sequences

«Fiber-wireless Access Networks»

 

The vision of a cost-effective, energy-efficient, high-spectral-efficient, and high-capacity ubiquitous communication has gained great momentum recently for future broadband access networks. Seeking new wireless spectrum regimes, exploring new wireless techniques, and combining optical fiber-based broadband networks with various wireless communications are among the advanced technologies that have been garnering significant interest. This special session focuses on, but not limited to, high-capacity wireless communications by advanced photonic technologies, seamless fiber-wireless converged networks, and advanced techniques in mobile wireless communications. The session invites expert speakers from Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), Vietnam, and National Institute of Information and Communication (NICT), Japan, with the aim to exchange research ideas and promote future research collaboration. Contribution papers covering the aforementioned topics and other related issues in this fast-growing area are particularly welcome.

«White Space and Cognitive Radio»

 

White space opens new ways to utilize radio spectrum more effectively. It is expected that this opportunity could bring a new wave of wireless communications innovation. A viable solution is cognitive radio technology. cognitive radio systems (CRS) are evolving technologies. Regulators/Administrations are now considering to allow such technology into operation in a large scale. The aims of this special session within ATC 2014 are:

- To facilitate the study on cognitive radio systems and white space

- To share the information and to exchange latest research activities on CR system

- To report on the latest results of white space opportunities

- To discuss Spectrum Management Issues for White Spaces Wireless Network

Researchers are encouraged to submit papers on related issues in this fast-developing area.
